As church leader, lay and ordained, we are often seeking ways for our churches to make a meaningful impact in our local areas. The Being Missional Today conference offers a stimulating opportunity to explore how we and our churches can actively contribute in today’s changing world.
Why Coventry Cathedral?
Coventry Cathedral has a deep-rooted commitment to the ministry of reconciliation, dating back to the destruction of the inner city of Coventry in WWII. The Cathedral’s Community of the Cross of Nails extends across Britain and Ireland, and globally, connecting those committed to bridge-building. CCN’s three core priorities—healing the wounds of history, learning to live with difference and celebrate diversity, and building a culture of justice and peace—align closely with challenges and opportunities facing the church today.
Meet the speakers
The Very Revd John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry, will lead a conversation on how churches can apply these reconciliation principles in their own contexts, in dialogue with the Revd Charlotte Gale, who co-leads St Clare’s, a pioneer church community based at the Cathedral, and author of Simple, Generous, Open: Mission and Renewal in the Progressive Church. They will be joined by Emma Griffiths, who oversees the Cathedral’s International Cross of Nails Schools work, and who will share how schools can embrace reconciliation by empowering teachers and students as ambassadors of peace.
A place of pilgrimage
Coventry Cathedral is more than a building—it’s a living testament to the power of faith to transform communities. “We like to bring people in through the ruins of the old cathedral, which speaks to the honesty of the world’s brokenness,” said Dean John Witcombe. “But in true Christian ministry, the story doesn’t end with devastation. It leads through to the new cathedral, where an extraordinary blaze of 20th-century stained glass can only be fully appreciated by walking its length and looking back toward the world. It’s a profound sight to behold.”
This conference offers a unique opportunity to learn, reflect, and take action, in an iconic and inspiring setting.
