Practical Peacemaking programme

East Africa Reconciliation Initiatives

In 2025, RI established a collaborative partnership with the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) to support ACK leaders through learning and development programmes. The inaugural programme aims to resource Bishops and their spouses in navigating the complex realities of leadership in times of conflict through a practical peacemaking programme rooted in faith, conflict transformation insights, and mutual learning.

The project is being led by RI Kenya Project Manager Revd Fedis Nyagah. Fedis is an Anglican priest, a member of the global Church and Community Mobilisation Process (CCMP) master trainer network , and a Girl Child Long Walk Fellow. She has championed the uptake of CCMP within the Anglican church in Africa and facilitated envisioning forums for new bishops and spouses for transformational leadership in 15 Anglican provinces.

Project purpose:

The overall purpose of the Practical Peacemaking programme is to equip bishops and their spouses with the insight and tools to navigate tensions and conflict effectively within their leadership and ministry.  The initial conference will be facilitated by a team of highly experienced Kenyan trainers who will use interactive sessions, biblical reflection, group discussions, practical exercises, peer learning as well as offering a safe and supportive environment for growth and leadership renewal. Following the residential conference, a follow-up will be offered to support implementation and continued learning over a 12-month period, through virtual platforms like Zoom and WhatsApp.

Key Objectives:

  • Increasing self-awareness as leaders during times of conflict;
  • Equipping participants with practical tools for engaging constructively with tension and conflict;
  • Exploring biblical foundations for peacemaking and reconciliation;
  • Enhancing skills in conflict analysis;
  • Addressing tensions and conflict in church settings, across ethnic divisions, and in inter-faith contexts; and
  • Understanding gender dynamics and the unique contributions each spouse brings to their context.

The inaugural Practical Peacemaking residential conference will be held at the Sagana Getaway Resort from 27th October to 1st November 2025.

This five-day learning and transformation programme will bring together Bishops and their spouses from 12 dioceses across three ACK regions:  Mt Kenya Central, Mt Kenya South, Mt Kenya West, and Thika; Embu, Kirinyaga, Marsabit, Mbeere, and Meru; All Saints Cathedral, Kajiado, and Nairobi
